Somnox is a soft, huggable relaxation aid designed to improve the quality of your sleep
One of the most unusual and innovative sleep technology products in recent years, Somnox is the world’s first sleep robot designed to improve the quality of your sleep and help you wake up feeling refreshed.
What is the Somnox sleep robot?
The brainchild of four students from the Netherlands, Somnox debuted on Kickstarter as a robotic sleep aid that you take to bed with you.
Somnox is a soft, huggable robotic pillow that you take to bed at night. It utilizes breathing regulation, sounds and ‘affection’ to help people struggling with insomnia, anxiety-related sleep issues or those who just want to fall asleep easier.
The sleep robot uses advanced technology, comfortable, breathable natural fabric like a comforting teddy bear, but for grown ups. Somnox helps relax you to sleep in a natural way without the need for sleeping pills, potions or any other therapies.

Somnox uses the principle of guided breathing to help relax you to sleep. Slowing down your breathing is a technique that’s been used for thousands of years to promote relaxation, reduce anxiety and improve sleep.
Many other sleep aids like 2Breathe and Dodow use the same principles of guided breathing, but in a different way to Somnox.
At night you take Somnox into bed with you and hug or spoon the robot to feel its simulated breathing movement.
Because this movement is slower than your natural breathing rhythm, if you hold the robot close to your body, your breathing will automatically synchronize to the slower rhythm of Somnox.
This means your own breathing will gradually slow down, which creates the conditions for you to drift off to sleep.
Can the Somnox sleep robot really improve your sleep?
Having conducted many tests with sleepers, the Somnox team found that 90% of participants fell asleep faster and 70% achieved a better night’s rest when using the sleep robot.
Having conducted extensive literature reviews into the scientific background of breathing regulation, sleep sounds the team produced a white paper which you can download from their website explaining the details of their research and the test data.
Lullabies and Sounds
As well as breathing regulation, Somnox also features a sophisticated sound and music playback system. The sleep robot can play back any type of sound, in tandem with the breathing movements including:
- guided meditation
- lullabies
- white noise
- audio books
- music
- record your own sounds
Somnox is currently available for pre-order from their website at a cost of $499.
